“It seemed like a good thing to do that would test me and I would also get something out of it.”

When Kenny Cooper’s sister died at the age of just 39 following a stroke, he knew he wanted to do something to keep her memory alive and raise awareness of the risk of stroke in young adults.
The 31 year old from Motherwell was determined to do something amazing in memory of his sister Claire, so decided to walk 5K every day in December.
He admits: “I’m not the fittest person and certainly not the most outdoorsy, so it seemed like a good thing to do that would test me and I would also get something out of it. My wife Stacey and our French bulldog Dave joined me on a lot of the walks.
“On days I struggled to get out or was tired, I just thought of my sister. Claire would have laughed at the thought of me walking out in the snow and rain!”
But raising over £2,500 as part of his December challenge wasn’t enough for Kenny. He has now signed up to take part in the Men’s 10K Glasgow to raise even more money in his sister’s memory.
It will be a huge challenge for him but he’s determined to run 10K, with friends and family cheering him on from the sidelines.
Whether you would like to raise money in memory of a loved one, have friends or family who are affected by our conditions, or would just like to help survivors across Scotland live their lives to the full, sign up now and join amazing people like Kenny
