Webinar: Creating a New National Care Service

Date: Tuesday 26th October 2021
12 noon – 1pm

The Scottish Government are going to create a National Care Service which will change the way that social care support and services are delivered. They have published their ideas for how the new Service will operate and what it will cover, and they are asking for your views and comments.
The new National Care Service will be one of the biggest changes ever to public services in Scotland, and it will impact on many of us in the future.
Your feedback will help them finalise their plans and develop new legislation to create the Service which will go to the Scottish Parliament next year.
To find out more about the Scottish Government’s proposals and to hear how you can give your feedback, join our webinar on the 26th October, from 12-1pm.

What is social care?

Social care is there for people of any age who need help with day-to-day living because of illness, physical disability, learning disabilities or mental health conditions, or because of older age, frailty or dementia.
Social care also supports people with or recovering from alcohol or drug addictions, and those who are or have been homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.
Children’s social care services also provide help for children and families who may need additional support, or where children are unable to live with their own families.

What is the National Care Service?

The Scottish Government’s consultation includes ideas for:

  • Improving people’s care, including support for carers, how assessments are carried out, support planning, and residential care charges
  • How the National Care Service will be run, with responsibility lying with the Scottish Government
  • What the National Care Service will cover, including community health services, social work, and mental health services
  • Creating new Community Health and Social Care Boards in each local authority area
