We’re delighted to have received approval to run the first CHSS Physical Activity Innovation Fund project in Western Isles.

The project is designed to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of members of the Lewis community who have a diagnosis of a chest, heart or stroke related condition, through access to low level physical activity in a sociable setting.

The project will:

  • Improve access to physical activity
  • Improve awareness of the benefits of physical activity and available CHSS support among participants
  • Increase levels of physical activity of participants
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation by providing opportunities for socialising and making friends
  • Increase awareness of the project and CHSS services among health and social care professionals

The project will contribute to the first of the National Health and Wellbeing Outcomes: People are able to look after and improve their own health and wellbeing and live in good health for longer.

Sonja MacLeod, Rehabilitation Support Co-ordinator for Western Isles, is working with Partners at Trust Housing in Stornoway to deliver a range of physical activities to tenants and members of the wider community, building on their own activities and interests.

We are grateful to The Postcode Community Trust, funded by players of the People’s Postcode lottery, who have awarded funding of £4,077 for training for staff and volunteers and for games and equipment supporting physical activity.

Look out for further updates in the coming months to keep you up to date with this the progress of this project!
