Working with the Scottish Parliament
At the Scottish Parliament, Cross Party Groups bring together Members from across the political parties with outside organisations and members of the public to meet and discuss important issues.
Together with our partner charities, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland provide the joint-secretariat for two Cross Party Groups.
Cross Party Group on Heart Disease and Stroke
The Heart Disease and Stroke group is led by Maree Todd MSP, and Colin Smyth MSP, with secretariat provided by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, Stroke Association, and British Heart Foundation.
The purpose of the group is to influence future policy development and help ensure tackling heart disease and stroke remain priorities, by:
- Bringing collective expertise to Parliament, including that of people living with heart disease and stroke, to share evidence and research on the prevention, care and treatment of heart disease and stroke.
- Increasing political awareness about living with heart disease and stroke, and the cross-cutting links with the wider public health agenda and the Scottish Government’s strategic position on health.
For information on meetings and membership, see the Cross Party Group on Heart Disease and Stroke webpage.
In June 2017 the group launched an Inquiry into Atrial Fibrillation.
Cross Party Group on Lung Health
The Lung Health group is led by Emma Harper MSP, with secretariat provided by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and the British Lung Foundation Scotland.
The purpose of the group is to:
- Help improve Scotland’s poor record on respiratory health and promote a more strategic approach to addressing long-term improvements.
- Increase political awareness about the scale of respiratory illness, the cost to the NHS, its links with wider health inequalities, prevention opportunities, and the cross-cutting connections with other parts of the public health agenda.
For information on meetings and membership, see the Cross Party Group on Lung Rehab webpage.
